Retirees
Duke Energy has one of the most successful corporate retiree volunteer programs in the nation. This organization applies the experience and skills of our retirees to meet the critical needs of the communities where we live.

In 2005, Duke Energy’s 23 retiree chapters in North Carolina and South Carolina reported 239,700 volunteer hours—a 13.6% increase from volunteer hours reported in 2004. Based on the national average value of a volunteer hour, this was a return on investment of approximately $4.2 million in our communities.
Below are just a few of the many volunteer projects and organizations that our retirees have helped:
- Habitat for Humanity
- Hospice
- The Salvation Army
- Meals on Wheels
- American Red Cross blood drives
- Tutoring & mentoring in schools
- Landscaping projects
- Repaired houses
- Worked in libraries
- Built furniture and playground equipment for schools and city parks
And, the list goes on.
Duke Energy is committed to improving the quality of life in our communities and surrounding areas.
